Meet Carthage Optometrist, Dr. Philip W. Marler
Dr. Philip Marler received his B.S. in Biology from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. While at MC he was a member of Beta Beta Beta Biology Fraternity, ACS Science Honor Fraternity, and was selected as an Outstanding College Student of America. Additionally he received a minor in Chemistry. In 1994 Dr. Marler received his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. While attending SCO he was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Fraternity and the PTU Social Fraternity. Not only was he was selected as the Clinician of the Year and elected as Junior Class Vice-President, he was also named into Who’s Who among Student’s in American Colleges and Universities. Upon graduation, Dr. Marler went to work with EyeCare Associates in Metairie, Louisiana where he received training in Cataract and Glaucoma management.
In June of 1995, Dr. Marler purchased the Optometry practice of retiring Dr. H.C. McMillin in Carthage, MS. He has served as president of the Mississippi Optometric Association for 2010-2011 and still serves on several committees for the state. He is the past-president of the South-East-Central Optometric Society, a current member of the American Optometric Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Eyecare Alliance and the Mississippi Vision Foundation. He also served on the State of Mississippi’s Health Insurance Exchange sub-committee for small business owners. Dr. Marler attends First Baptist Church of Carthage and enjoys running, biking, and traveling with his family. His wife, Wendi, works at the office with him. They have three children, Sarah, Lindsey, and Austin. They also have a grandaughter, Ellen and a grandson, Leo.
